Spirits' Bardell Named Cross Country Runner Of The Week

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the fall sports Players of the Week for events competed September 21 -27 and, after voting by the league sports information directors, Salem's  Janine Bardell won the cross country distinction.

In her first year running cross country, Salem sophomore Janine Bardell (pictured at right) has taken great strides in making herself known on the course. In her first 5k of the year at St. Andrews, Janine ran a 27:29.2, and has drastically taken time off from her efforts. On September 26, Janine gave her best effort yet this season running a 23:03.7 5k at the 32nd Annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational. She went from running an average of 8:50 miles, to running an average of 7:25 miles.  


The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
