GSAC Cross Country Award Winners Announced

ATLANTA, Ga. - The GSAC announced the women's cross country postseason award winners tonight and eight student-athletes were honored along with All-Academic and All-Sportsmmanship winners.

2014 GSAC Women's Cross Country All-Conference Team

Giulia Ghezzi – Jr., Agnes Scott

Giulia's 5k times: 26:42, 24:19, 23:52, 25:22. 

Giulia has been the Scotties top finisher in all 4 of our meets this year (Region will be our 5th race on Nov. 15). Her season best 5k time of 23:52 came at the University of North Ga Invite in a competitive field of mostly DII runners.  Her top 6k time of 29:11 came at the Ga Regents University Jaguar Invitational where Agnes Scott was the only DIII competitor. 

Serena Tsang, Jr., Mills

Serena's 5k times:23:57, 22:26, 21:56

Serena was the Mills College top finisher in the three meets that she competed in so far this season. Her 6k times converted to 5k times are: 23:57, 22:26, 21:56. This is her second year running competitively and she is still improving.

Maria Vaughan – So., Pine Manor College

Maria's 5K Times: 22:08, 23:05, 23:14

Sophomore Maria Vaughan was the top finisher for the Gators in every race for the second-straight year. She finished in the top-three overall twice this season. The first time was at the Raider Invitational on Sept. 20, in which she ran a personal-best 22:08. She also finished third at the Pine Manor Invitational on Oct. 9.

Stephanie Verdi - Sr., Salem

Stephanie's 5k times: 21:35, 21:59, 20:51, 21:48, 20:44

Stephanie (pictured at right) was the top finisher in five out of the six races for the Salem Spirits this season.  A senior from High Point, NC started out the season right with a 21:35 5k time at the St. Andrews Invitational.  A pivitol moment came for Stephany when she ran an overall person best at the ADIDAS XC Challenge on 9/19/14 only to turn around and run her best time at the ESPN Disney Cross Country Classic with a 20:44 5k finish to end her cross country career at Salem College.   

Cristi Magracia - Sr., Salem

Cristi's 5k times: 22:23, 20:18, 21:44, 21:22, 23:55, 21:46.

She was Salem's third best runner the entire season. She recorded 2 top 10 finishes.

Audrey Wierda – Jr., Salem

Audrey's 5k times: 23:33, 23:48, 23:24, 22:41, 22:17, 22:25

Audrey, known as AJ on the Salem Cross Country team, is a junior from Greenville, MI.  Audrey is a runner with a hard work ethic who literally will go the extra mile to benefit herself and her teammates.  AJ ran her best race at the 31st Annual Greensboro XC Invitational on 9/27/14 with a time of 22:17.  Audrey was consistently our third place finisher for the Salem Spirits but she was always number one when it came to working hard in practice and putting in extra time outside of practice. 

2014 GSAC Women's Cross Country All-Freshman Team

Yang Hong, Fr., Agnes Scott

Yang's 5k times: 30:15, 28:32, 27:56

The freshman from Changchun China has posted considerable improvements this season and has been one of Agnes Scott's top 3 runners in every meet.  Her season best time of 27:56 came at the University of North Ga Invite on 9/27 where she was the 3rd Agnes Scott runner to cross the finish line. 

Courtney Koetz, Fr., Mills

Courtney's 5k times: 25:15, 25:24, 26:46.

Koetz is a freshman at Mills and worked extremely hard to quit smoking this summer so that she could run on the cross country team. When the season began she could not run 1 mile without stopping. She has now completed three 6k races for Mills and her times converted to 5k are: 25:15, 25:24, 26:46.
