Volleyball All-Conference Award Winners Announced

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference held a banquet in Atlanta on Friday evening to celebrate the 2015 GSAC Volleyball All-Conference award winners. Anna Tomkins of Agnes Scott won the top prize of Player of the Year while Finlandia's Anaya Merriweather captured Libero of the Year. The Scotties' Paige Heck collected Freshman of the Year and her head coach, Catherine Geerlings, was named Coach of the Year by her peers.

Anna Tomkins (pictured at right), a sophomore setter from Chapel Hill, N.C., appeared at the top of the league in several key statistical categories en route to claiming Player of the Year status. She led the league in assists with 511 and used a deadly service to rack up a conference-best 81 aces. Tomkins was also a defensive contributor for the Scotties, tallying 259 digs on the season, fourth-best among conference competitors.

Anaya Merriweather, a sophomore Libero from Detroit, Mich. handled the defensive specialist duties for the Lions with aplomb to earn Libero of the Year honors. She ranked inside the top ten in digs per set among GSAC competitors with a 2.85 per game average. Merriweather also collected an impressive 148 digs in only 52 sets on her way to claiming the honor for defensive specialists.

Paige Heck, a freshman outside hitter from Indianapolis, Ind. Took the GSAC by storm in 2015 to win Freshman of the Year. She ranked inside the top five in several statistical categories including first in kills with 209, second in kills per set with 2.75, fourth in service aces with 34 and fifth in hitting percentage at  0.185. She cemented her status as the league's top newcomer by leading the conference in points on the season with a total of 246.

Catherine Geerlings just completed her sixth season at the helm of the Scotties' program and earned the Coach of the Year honor from her peers after posting a league-best 11 victories in 2015. Most recently, Geerlings has guided the Scotties to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances after securing the school's first ever trip in 2013. Geerlings graduated with a B.A. in Kinesiology from Southwestern University (Georgetown, TX) in 1992.
