ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference announced the fall sports Players of the Week for all contests played September 15 - 21 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Hillary McPhatter of the Spirits' won Volleyball Player of the Week.
GSAC Volleyball Player of the Week – Hillary McPhatter of Salem
Hillary McPhatter played a pivotal role in Salem College's win over Conference Rival Agnes Scott this weekend. Saturday's win for the Spirits put them to 2-0 in Conference play. After winning the first set, Salem's Middle turned an ankle and went out of the match. McPhatter turned up the volume delivering 22 kills and 13 digs in her double-double, which also included 3 service aces and a block. McPhatter delivered the final blow to decide the 3rd set in a 31-29 battle and contributed five of her 22 kills in the final (5th) set, including the match winner to seal it for the Spirits, 15-13.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
