SALEM, N.C. - The Agnes Scott volleyball team topped Salem 3-1 on Saturday evening to win the 2013 GSAC Volleyball Championship.
The Spirits took the first set of the title game before the Scotties rattled off three straight set wins to claim the title and the automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Tournament.

In the final day of the GSAC Volleyball Tournament, the Agnes Scott Scotties topped Wesleyan College 3-0 in the semi-finals to earn a spot in the championship game against host Salem College. The Scotties then topped Salem 3-1 to win the championship and earn their first ever bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Salem took the first set 25-20, but the Scotties bounced back with three straight set wins, 25-13, 25-20, 25-12, to take the title.
Junior Lauren Aikens and Senior Morgan Bender led the attack with help from setter Shakirah Dodson and Libero of the Year Shelli Sherman. Aikens recorded a season high of 21 kills (.390), she also had a team high of five service aces and seven blocks. Bender added 17 kills (.130), 10 digs and three blocks. On the assists, Dodson accumulated a season high of 42 and Sherman totaled 26 digs. First-year Lexus Travis contributed five kills and sophomore Natali Rendon added four kills and 15 digs.
The Scotties next stop will be the NCAA Tournament. Brackets will be announced in the coming week.
