Weekly Tennis Honor Goes To Banana Slugs' Brummitt

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference announced the women's tennis Player of the Week for all matches played through February 23 – March 1 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Sylvia Brummitt of UC-Santa Cruz captured the weekly award.

Brummitt, a freshman from Hawaii, hung tough in the Slugs doubleheader on Sunday in their second match of the day against Christopher Newport University. She played #2 doubles with Islay Fossett and won, 8-3. Brummitt also secured the Slugs lone singles win playing under the lights, 4-6,6-4,10-8. Sylvia has played #1 and #2 doubles in the season with a record of 5-4. In singles she has played at #2 with a record of 4-5.


The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
