ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference announced the women's tennis Player of the Week for all matches played through February 15 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Islay Fossett of UC Santa Cruz collected the first award of the spring season.

Fossett, a freshman, recorded a singles and doubles win against D-II Holy Names on Sunday, February 15. She combined with Sylvia Brummitt to win doubles at the number two position, 8-6. In singles, she played at number four, winning 6-2, 6-3. Fossett has played at #3 and #4 and her overall record is 2-3 in doubles and the same in singles. The Slugs swept the doubles and came just points away from winning the match before falling, 5-4.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
