ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletics Conference announced the spring sports Players of the Week for contests played February 10 -16 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Mills' Casey Honath claimed Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
GSAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week – Casey Honath of Mills
Honath played No. 3 Doubles and No. 2 singles matches over a 30-hour period during Mills' Oregon trip last weekend after moving up this season from the No. 6 and No. 5 spots. In her first match against Pacific University she had a lot of deuce games, but lost 8-0 in doubles. She bounced back in singles with a 2-6, 5-7 loss. She played through fatigue and pain from a recurring injury the second day (double header vs. Willamette University and George Fox University) with1-8 losses in both doubles matches with partner Phoebe Minette and 0-6, 6-2 loss in singles vs. Willamette. Despite facing frustration at being unable to execute her usual repertoire of shots, Honath stubbornly looked for other ways to compete which inspired her coaches and teammates.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
