ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the spring sports week five Players of the Week on Wednesday morning and student-athletes from Agnes Scott College and Finlandia University were selected as winners through exclusive voting by the league sports information directors.
Week 5 Softball Player of the Week – Finlandia University freshman outfielder Kristen Rose
Finlandia University freshman outfielder Kristen Rose of Covington, Va. led the Lions to a 4-0 record this past week. Her stats from the plate were as follows: .571 average (8-for-14) with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 9 runs scored, 9 RBI, and 1 stolen base.
Week 5 Softball Pitcher of the Week – Finlandia University junior pitcher Alyson Herman
Finlandia University junior pitcher Alyson Herman (Riverside, Calif.) led the Lions this past week, going 3-0 (Finlandia was 4-0 overall) on the mound. Her stats from the week included 18.0 innings pitched, giving up 4 earned runs, with 14 strike outs with an opponent batting average was .217 (15-69).
Week 5 Tennis Player of the Week – Agnes Scott senior Hannah Kraus
Last Monday the Agnes Scott tennis team defeated Wesleyan College 9-0. Playing number three singles, senior Hannah Kraus (pictured) defeated Wesleyan's Lauren Mitchell 6-0, 6-0. Kraus also teamed up with teammate Anne Rinaldo at number two doubles for an 8-1 victory. This is Kraus' fourth singles victory this season.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
