Hancock, Mich. – Finlandia University announces the full-time hiring of Nichole Tiggs as the Head Women's Soccer Coach.
Tiggs comes to Finlandia after spending the last 10 months in Australia as an assistant coach for the Casey Comets U18 Girls team and working as a Career Advisor / Prospect Manager for NSR Australia, a company that helped recruit and promote Australian soccer players to U.S. colleges and universities. Prior to her time in Australia, Nichole spent five seasons as the Assistant Women's Soccer Coach at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. Other coaching experience includes being a head coach for various club and high school soccer teams and working various camps over a period of 15 years. "We're extremely excited to bring Nichole into our athletics and campus community, and for her to build our women's soccer program as the program's first full-time head coach," comments Chris Salani, director of athletics. "From her outstanding experiences as a coach in the upper Midwest and her exceptional playing career, we're looking forward to her efforts of establishing a sound foundation for competitive collegiate women's soccer at Finlandia."
Nichole played her collegiate soccer at Indiana State University where she won numerous Missouri Valley Conference honors, along with becoming the Sycamores all-time point scorer and all-time goal scorer. She also holds the record for shots in a single season. While at ISU she gained valuable student leadership experience by being part of different committees, including the ISU SAAC and the Missouri Valley Conference SAAC.
Tiggs commented on accepting the position at Finlandia, "I am excited to join the Finlandia Lions Family! I am honored and most appreciative of the opportunity afforded to me by President Philip Johnson and Chris Salani. I look forward to being in position to compete both on and off the field with the resources, support, and people that care in the growth of student-athletes. My staff and I will do everything in our power to put Finlandia on the map as a competitive soccer program and make the Finlandia community proud."
Tiggs earned a Master's of Public Administration from the University of North Dakota in 2008. She also earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science / Legal Studies from Indiana State University (Terre Haute, IN) in 2006.
