ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played November 13 – 15 and, after voting by the league sports information directors, Trina Torres of UC-Santa Cruz won the first award of the young season.

The 5-11 Torres (pictured at right) led the Slugs to a sweep of their season-opening trip to southern California. On Friday at Redlands, she scored a career-high 20 points to lead the second half rally in the 69-61 win. She added seven rebounds and two steals. Saturday she was one of three Slugs in double figures, scoring 10 as the Slugs held off Occidental 65-57. Torres is a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line to start the year She' and she's averaging 15.0 points and 5.5 rebounds.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
