Finlandia's Burke Grabs Basketball Player of the Week Honors

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletics Conference announced the winter sports Players of the Week for contests played February 10 -16 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Finlandia's Marissa Burke won Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Burke (pictured at right) was outstanding for the Lions as they closed the season on a 8-game winning streak, including two victories last week. In a 101-38 win over Mount Mary, Burke tallied 25 points (10-20 FG, 5-12 3-pt FG), 9 rebounds, 12 assists, 3 blocks, and 10 steals in 32 minutes of play, missing out on a quadruple-double by 1 rebound. In Game 2 versus Northland International (W, 91-52), she netted 42 points (14-27 FG, 9-15 3-pt FG, 5-7 FT), 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks, and 4 steals. For the week, Burke averaged 33.5 points, shot 51% from the floor, shot 51.9% from the arc, averaged 10 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 3 blocks, and 7 steals per game. 

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
