ATLANTA - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the spring sports Players of the Week for contests played April 18 – 24 and, after voting by the league sports information directors, Agnes Scott's Molly Baker won softball Pitcher of the Week and Ashley Bush of Wesleyan was named softball Player of the Week.
GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week – Molly Baker of Agnes Scott
Agnes Scott played six games against Covenant, Wesleyan and LaGrange this week and sophomore, Molly Baker (pictured at right) earned 2 wins and 1 loss out of her three games on the mound. In 21.2 innings of work, Baker only allowed 2 earned runs, resulting in an ERA for the week of 0.66. Baker had 15 strikeouts on the week. In the game against Covenant, Baker received the win with a 12-4 score. She allowed 2 hits and had 5 strikeouts. All runs were unearned. In the game against Wesleyan, Baker received the win with a 4-1 score. She allowed 6 hits, had 7 strikeouts and 3 walks. The one run was earned. In the game against LaGrange, Baker took the game to 8 innings. Baker received the loss with a 0-2 score. She allowed 5 hits, had 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. Only one run was earned.
GSAC Softball Player of the Week – Ashley Bush of Wesleyan
Freshman Ashley Bush exploded offensively this week against some of the toughest competition that Wesleyan has faced all season in Emory and Middle Georgia State University. Over six games, she had a batting average of .400, going 6-15 at the plate with two doubles, a triple, and 3 RBI. She recorded a slugging percentage of .667 and an OBP of .471.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
