ATLANTA - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the winter and spring sports Athletes of the Week for contests played February 15 - 21 and, after voting by the league sports information directors, Salem teammates Kierston Garner (player) and Bri Morris (pitcher) swept the softball awards.
GSAC Softball Player of the Week – Kierston Garner of Salem
Senior Kierston Garner (pictured at right) of Salem College had a remarkable week. Garner went 6-for-13 at the plate in four games with a batting average of .462 and a slugging percentage of .923 for the week. Garner had 2 singles, 3 doubles, and a homerun. She scored 2 runs and delivered 3 RBI's. Garners' on-base percentage was .500 for the week.
GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week – Bri Morris of Salem
Bri Morris pitched her way to a win this week over Shenandoah. Morris pitched 9 solid innings, facing 30 batters and only giving up 1 run, 2 walks, and 9 hits. She finished the day with 3 strikeouts in the 4-1 win over Shenandoah.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
