ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference announced the softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for all games played April 13 – 19 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Agnes Scott teammates Alyssa Millikin (player) and Holly Jones (pitcher) swept the final awards of the spring season.
GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week – Holly Jones of Agnes Scott
Sophomore Holly Jones (pictured at right) threw 18 innings in 3 games over the past week, resulting in two wins and one loss. Earlier in the week, Jones threw a full game versus Georgia Gwinnett College, allowing 9 hits, 3 earned runs, 3 walks and striking out 2. The score was 1-4. Over the weekend versus Salem, Jones threw 12 innings, allowing only 5 hits, 1 run, 3 walks, 1 homerun and 5 strikeouts. Jones came in relief the first game of the double-header in the 4th inning and earned the win with a 6-4 victory. Jones threw the entire second game, earning the win with a 3-1 score. The ERA for Jones on the mound this previous week was 1.56.
GSAC Softball Player of the Week – Alyssa Millikin of Agnes Scott
Senior Alyssa Millikin went 6-for-12 with a .500 batting average this past week. In a doubleheader earlier in the week against Georgia Gwinnett College, Millikin went 4-for-6 with a .667 batting average. Over the weekend versus Salem, Millikin went 2-for-6 with a .333 batting average. Overall on the week, Millikin had 6 hits, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 3 runs, a sacrifice bunt, a stolen base, 17 put outs in centerfield with one error.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
