ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference announced the softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for all games played March 30 – April 5 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Salem teammates swept the awards with Maggie Fritts winning Player of the Week and Lauryn Smith collecting Pitcher of the Week honors.
GSAC Softball Player of the Week – Maggie Fritts of Salem
Freshman Maggie Fritts (pictured at right) of Salem College had a remarkable week. Fritts went 5-for-7 at the plate in two games with a batting average of .714 and a slugging percentage was .857 for the week. Fritts had 7 at bats, 4 singles, a double, and a stolen base. She scored a run and delivered an RBI. Fritts on base-percentage was .417 for the week. She was stellar in the field as well with 3 put outs and had a spectacular catch up against the fence to help secure a win for Salem.
GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week – Lauryn Smith of Salem
Lauryn Smith pitched her way to a win this week over Mary Baldwin. \Smith on the day pitched 10 solid innings, facing 35 batters giving up 1 run,1 walk, only allowing 5 hits. She finished the day with 10 strikeouts. She also finished the week with an era of 0.90.

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
