ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference announced the softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for all games played March 23 – 29 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Wesleyan teammates swept the awards with Jema Bravo winning Player of the Week and Mellissa Webb collecting Pitcher of the Week honors.
GSAC Softball Player of the Week – Jema Bravo of Wesleyan
Sophomore Jema Bravo (pictured at right) went 17-for-26 in eight games this week to lead the Wolves offensively. She scored eight runs and had nine runs batted in with five doubles and three home runs. Her batting average for the week was .654 and she boasts an impressive slugging percentage of 1.192 and on base percentage of .690.
GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week – Mellissa Webb of Wesleyan
Junior Mellissa Webb appeared in six games and went 2-3 for the week with wins over Sewanee and Agnes Scott. She pitched an impressive 32.1 innings with 26 strikeouts. Despite coming up short, Webb held No. 9 Emory to just four runs in her start against the Eagles.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
