ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference announced the softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for all games played March 16 – 22 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Agnes Scott teammates swept the awards with Alex Garcia claiming Player of the Week and Holly Jones winning Pitcher of the Week honors.
GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week - Holly Jones of Agnes Scott
Holly Jones (pictured at right) pitched a full game against Brenau University, earning a win with a score of 6-1. Jones had 11 strikeouts, 6 walks, 4 hits and only one earned run. She pitched a 6-1 loss to Huntingdon College, going 4.2 innings with 3 strikeouts, 1 walk, 7 hits and 4 earned runs. In total over the week, Jones had an opposing batting average of .256 and an ERA of 3.13. She had 14 total strikeouts, 7 walks and 5 earned runs in 11.2 innings of work in the circle.
GSAC Softball Player of the Week - Alex Garcia of Agnes Scott
Agnes Scott softball played two double-headers versus Brenau University and Huntingdon College this past week, going 1-3 overall. First-year, Alex Garcia went 4-for-7 (.571) against Brenau, with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI's and a double. Against Huntingdon, Garcia went 4-for-8 (.500), scoring 3 runs and driving in one RBI. Garcia shared her time at first base, third base and catcher over the week. Garcia had a double play at third base against Huntingdon. On the week, Garcia went a total of 8-for-15 with a .533 batting average against strong opponents.

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
