Louisville, KY - Finlandia University senior catcher Alexis Lawley from Pell City, AL named to the 2014 National Fastpitch Coaches Association First Team All-Region for the Central Region.
Lawley put together a stellar senior season for the Lions as she finished with a .574 batting average, which leads the nation for the NCAA Division III. She is third nationally with a .624 on base percentage and eighth with a .970 slugging percentage. Alexis finished the 2014 season with 58 hits, 13 doubles, 9 home runs, and 27 RBI.
Alexis was also like another coach on the field as she called the game from behind the plate for the Lions. She finished the year with a .988 fielding percentage with 129 put-outs and 31 assists.
"We are so excited for Alexis," said Coach Williams. "All of her hard work and dedication this year has paid off. She is incredibly deserving of this honor."
Along with this honor, Lawley was also named 2014 Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) Softball Player of the Year, GSAC All-Conference Team, two-time GSAC Player of the Week, and the Finlandia Athlete of the Year.
The All-Region teams are nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight Division III regions. First team All-Region choices are eligible for selection to the NFCA All-American team, which will be revealed on May 21 at the NCAA Division III Softball Championship banquet in Tyler, Texas.
