Pine Manor's Bushika, Rose Sweep Weekly Softball Awards

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletics Conference announced the spring sports Players of the Week for contests played April 14 – 20 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Pine Manor teammates Alexis Bushika and Chardonai Rose swept the awards with Bushika claiming Softball Pitcher of the Week and Rose capturing Softball Player of the Week.

GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week – Alexis Bushika of Pine Manor

Alexis Bushika (pictured at right) went the distance for the Gators in all six of their contests this week, compiling a 4-2 record while striking out 18 over 28.2 innings pitched. Bushika is currently riding a four-game winning streak that started with a five inning no-hitter over Mass. Maritime in an 8-0 Gators victory 4/17/14. The Adams, Mass. native then surrendered only one earned run in an 11-3 victory in game two before surrendering only one earned run in each game in a doubleheader sweep of Wheelock on 4/18/14.

GSAC Softball Player of the Week – Chardonai Rose of Pine Manor

Chardonai Rose helped carry Pine Manor to a 4-2 record on the week, hitting a monster .667 while collecting 10 hits and 11 RBI in 15 at-bats. Rose had three double and seven singles, collecting a team-high 13 total bases while also scoring eight runs on the week. The Fairfield, California native drove in three runs during a doubleheader sweep of Mass. Maritime on 4/17/14 before driving in a staggering seven runs in a doubleheader sweep of Wheelock the next day. She was also the only PMC player to drive in a run in a pair of losses to Suffolk on 4/14/14.

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
