Finlandia Wins 2013 GSAC Softball Title

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Finlandia University softball team topped Huntingdon College 5-0 on Saturday evening to win the 2013 Great South Athletic Conference Softball championship.

The Finlandia University softball team battled potential weather problems, as well as the other members of the Great South Athletic Conference and came out on top. 

The Lions went 4-0 in the conference tournament, defeating Trinity Washington University 28 to 0 and Agnes Scott College 3 to 2 on Friday.  Then on Saturday, Finlandia defeated Huntingdon College 8-6 to put them in the championship game.  The Lions then met Huntingdon College again, only to defeat them by a score of 5 to 0.

The Lions were led by tournament MVP, Alexis Lawley (Pell City, AL, Gadsden State Community College).

This tournament victory gives not just the Finlandia softball team an invitation to the NCAA tournament, but the school's first invite in any sport.
