ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the spring sports week nine Players of the Week on Wednesday morning and student-athletes from Agnes Scott College and Covenant College were selected as winners through exclusive voting by the league sports information directors.
Week 9 Softball Pitcher of the Week – Covenant freshman pitcher Hannah Rogers
Rogers (pictured in the circle) pitched an outstanding game on Saturday as she went 8.1 innings allowing just three runs on 12 hits, 11 of which were singles, in Covenant's 3-2 nine inning loss to Agnes Scott. Rogers struck out two and did not surrender a walk. For the week, Rogers gave up 12 earned runs in 13 innings while striking out two and walking two.
Week 9 Softball Player of the Week – Agnes Scott senior third baseman Shivani Ghodadra
Senior Shivani Ghodadra of Agnes Scott batted .421 in six games against Huntingdon, LaGrange and Covenant. In these six games, Ghodadra had 19 at bats, including 8 hits, 6 RBI's, 3 doubles, one walk, no strikeouts, one sacrifice bunt and she scored one run. Ghodadra was also a part of a successfully turned double play versus LaGrange.
Week 9 Tennis Player of the Week – Agnes Scott senior Rachel Storz
Storz got her 12th singles win of the year on Saturday as the team defeated Spelman 8-0. Storz and teammate Alex Cadle also won their 11th doubles match of the year defeating Spelman 8-2. Storz is ranked 19th in the region by ITA and has an overall record of 12-2 for singles and 11-4 for doubles. (conference 9-1, 9-1)
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
