ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the spring sports week eight Players of the Week on Wednesday morning and student-athletes from Agnes Scott College, Covenant College and Huntingdon College were selected as winners through exclusive voting by the league sports information directors.
Week 8 Softball Pitcher of the Week – Agnes Scott freshman pitcher Casey Arnold
First-Year pitcher/middle infielder, Casey Arnold (pictured in the circle), pitched 15.1 innings, picking up 3 wins on the mound this week. On April 8, versus Wesleyan, Casey pitched 5 innings with 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. On April 10, versus LaGrange, Casey started at shortstop but was pulled into pitch the first inning. She pitched 6.1 innings with 3 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. On April 13, versus Salem, Casey started the game as DP and was pulled into pitch the 3rd inning. In 5 innings pitched, Casey had 2 hits, 1 run, 0 earned runs, 1 walk and zero strikeouts. Overall stats for the week include 15.1 innings pitched, 11 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run, 6 walks and 12 strikeouts. Out of four wins this week for Agnes Scott, Casey earned three of them.
Week 8 Softball Player of the Week – Covenant senior catcher Jenni Jobe
Jobe batted a robust .611 (11-for-18) with four triples, 11 RBIs, 11 runs scored, and four stolen bases as Covenant earned four wins. The senior went 5-for-6 with five RBIs and five runs scored to lead Covenant to two wins against Wesleyan. She then went 2-for-6 with a run scored in two losses against NCAA Division II member Trevecca Nazarene. Jobe finished the week with a 4-for-6 day with two triples, five runs scored, and six RBIs as Covenant swept Wesleyan for the second time in a week
Week 8 Tennis Player of the Week – Huntingdon senior Taylor Clark
Clark was 5-0 at No. 1 singles this week, including a win over three-time GSAC Player of the Year Rachel Storz. Clark remains unbeaten in singles this season.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
