ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the spring sports week four Players of the Week on Wednesday morning and student-athletes from Covenant College and Finlandia University were selected as winners through exclusive voting by the league sports information directors.
Week 3 Softball Player of the Week - Covenant College freshman infielder Morgan Lane
Lane was 7-for-15 (.466) at the dish with three runs scored, three RBIs, and a pair of doubles on the week for Covenant. The freshman infielder went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs in a 9-2 victory over Salem on Saturday. Earlier in the week, Lane had five hits, an RBI, and a run scored in two games combined against Birmingham-Southern.
Week 3 Softball Pitcher of the Week – Finlandia University sophomore pitcher Miranda Brewer
Brewer (pictured pitching), of Harrison, Mich., went 2-0 in the 4 games this past week for the Lions. In 12 innings pitched, Brewer had 18 strikeouts and a sparkling 1.17 ERA as Finlandia posted a 3-1 record.
Week 3 Tennis Player of the Week – Covenant College senior Anne Marie Rowe
Rowe won all four matches she played in over the weekend. Rowe did not drop a set against Salem as she won her singles match 6-0, 6-0 (playing in the No. 4 position) and teamed up with her sister in doubles play to earn an 8-0 win as Covenant got its first victory of the season. Rowe also won two non-conference matches against NAIA foe Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
